Glossy dark green leaves turn orange, red, and purple in fall. Discovered along Georgia's Altamaha River in 1765 by botanists John and William Bartram, named after their friend Benjamin Franklin. Deciduous tree. Zones 5 8. Part shade to full sun. 10 20 ft. tall and 6 15 ft. wide.
